Thank you

Gordon CrudenThat’s me now settled back into life in the North East of Scotland after a whirlwind month riding the length and breadth of Europe for the Euro Bike Challenge.

From Lisbon to Kiev and Sarajevo to Helsinki, the initiative took me on an almighty adventure throughout the continent.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank the many people who helped me complete the challenge.

Our motto for the campaign was ‘One man – 47 countries – 30 days’. However, the reality is that there was much more than one man involved and I simply wouldn’t have been successful if it hadn’t been for the prayers, support and encouragement of friends.

My only regret is that I wasn’t able to spend time with people we had arranged to meet. Unfortunately, as the challenge progressed and we faced significant delays, we had to revise our itinerary and we apologise to those folks I was unable to visit.

To wrap up the initiative and visit 47 countries in the target 30 days felt good but, I’ve got to say, being able to shine a light on the plight of women in addiction and bring our fundraising to 33% of the £500K required to Buy Benaiah feels even better.

Our main scripture for the challenge – ‘with God all things are possible’ (Matt 19:26) – was again shown to be remarkably true.

After encountering major hurdles, including missing documents and gun-toting border control agents, things were not looking good for me. To be honest, at times I felt totally defeated.

However, God turns what appears to be a defeat into powerful victory and he opened up paths for us to ride into Edinburgh at 9pm on Thursday, May 21 – day 30 of the challenge.

This reflects exactly what happens in our Benaiah and Sunnybrae centres. Men and women, who are utterly broken and defeated, are renewed, refreshed and transformed by the power of the Gospel to live lives of victory.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to all the people who have kindly donated to our fundraising campaign.

We at Buy Benaiah are incredibly appreciative of your contributions. Please know that your support will have a direct impact on truly helping hurting people.

Just to mention though, a number of people have donated anonymously through our JustGiving page – we don’t know who you are but we are so grateful and thankful for your help.

Thanks again people – hope you enjoyed the ride.

Gordon.
